The Night Max Wore His Wolf Suit (Feat. Caroline Bartholomew)

from The Michelangelo of Hamilton by MC JB

/

lyrics

Up to one kind of mischief or another
Inside my wolf suit I ran wild until
Mother sent me to my room without supper
I suffer because I said I'd eat her up
But before I knew a forest grew through
From the floor to the roof for true
Soon a moon in my room don’t believe what I’m seeing
Vines from the ceiling
I rubbed my eyes cause I thought I was dreaming
The walls became the world outside
Then on my private boat float through day and through night
Sail away on the tide
In and out of weeks almost over a year
To where the wild things are

They roared their terrible roars
They gnashed their terrible teeth
They rolled their terrible eyes
And showed their terrible claws
From distant shores to where the wild things are.

Yellow eyes wide glare at me
Bellowed cries rise
Teeth white bared at me
But I’m not scared you see: "be still"
I’ve got a magic trick won’t blink
Stare them in the eyes strike fear in their minds quick
Quiet they paused,
Tamed them for sure
Silenced their roars
Frightened they called me the most wild thing of them all
Now I am the king of this land
Found a crown on head sceptre in hand
Sing songs day or night light or dark
My first command, let the wild rumpus start!

Climbing trees, riding beasts
Fires feasts, hide and seek
In piles heaped wild and free
Now I am a wild thing
In charge on top, king of the lot
Fun like no other but when I am done
I will send you to slumber without any supper
Say what? I said STOP!

Sitting in my wolf suit
I can choose what I wanna do
But all I do is think back to all the things I thought couldn't lose
Far across the sea smell good things to eat
Here I am free but it feels so lonely
Away from the people who love me and know me
Surrounded, alone, out here on my own
King of the wild while I’m without a home
The weight of this crown is now weighing me down
I think it’s about time that I put it down
And the wild things cried:
Please don’t go well eat you up we love you so
I said no as I turned my head toward the ocean
Stepped into my boat and set sail homeward

Into the night of his very own room he found his supper waiting for him
And it was still hot.
